WaterOne has issued a temporary Boil Advisory limited to one neighborhood in western Shawnee. The boil advisory affects 10 residential properties off Kimberly Lane and Midland Drive by Little Mill Creek. Affected customers are being notified by a NotifyJoCo alert. Customers outside of these properties are not affected. A map of the affected area is available below.
The boil advisory was issued in an abundance of caution due to damage to the water main caused by stormwater flooding in Little Mill Creek and in consideration of WaterOne’s high water quality standards. WaterOne is coordinating with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) for confirmatory testing. The boil advisory will be lifted by KDHE as soon as test results confirm water quality safety, ideally within 48 hours. KDHE will certify testing and will officially rescind the boil advisory, which will also be communicated to affected customers by WaterOne via NotifyJoCo alert and updates to WaterOne.org.
For the affected customers in the neighborhood described above, it is recommended that water be boiled for two minutes before consuming until the advisory is lifted. The advisory only affects water for consumption – all other uses such as cleaning, bathing, or watering plants continues to be safe to use as normal.
