Pump stations are an essential part of WaterOne’s distribution system. WaterOne’s network of pump stations push water from one location to another and create water pressure throughout the distribution system which keeps water fresh and reliable.
It is important to keep water flowing 24/7 even when adverse weather causes power outages. To keep facilities like the Wyss Pump Station, located off 159th and S Lone Elm Road, operating even in our regionsregion's inclement weather, WaterOne has been working to equip it with natural gas generators.
By installing natural gas generators at facilities such as the Wyss Pump Station, WaterOne improves its resilience during disruptions. This ability to generate power on-site allows operations to continue without interruption in the event of a power loss or other emergencies. As WaterOne system continues to grow, this ensures that the water supply is protected, but also improves the community's overall emergency preparedness, guaranteeing that customers have access to clean water and local firefighters have access to water supply and pressure to fight fires.
The implementation of natural gas generators was supported by a $4.8 million grant from U.S. Representative Sharice Davids of Kansas. This funding will enhance the community's emergency preparedness and ensure that water is available to WaterOne’s service area even during crises.
"WaterOne excels at redundancy," states Engineering Supervisor Nathan Hartig. "We want to ensure that we can continue to treat water and provide clean, safe drinking water, regardless of any utility interruptions at our facilities."
