WaterOne was founded in 1957, by customers for customers.
WaterOne is led by a seven-member Governing Board, elected at-large by the residents of the service area. As public officials who are elected at-large (without districts), Board members represent all customers within the entirety of WaterOne's service area. WaterOne is a non-profit, non-taxing public utility, and the main responsibility of the governing body is to set the policies under which the utility runs.
This structure combines the political leadership of elected officials with the expertise of a General Manager, senior management team, and professional staff.
Board meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of the month at 7 pm at the Byron N. Johnson Administrative Headquarters and Service Center, 10747 Renner Boulevard, Lenexa, Kansas. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.
