WaterOne has issued a temporary boil advisory for a portion of Leawood and Overland Park. Affected areas include only the neighborhoods east of Roe Avenue to State Line Road, and from 103rd Street to I-435. Affected customers have been notified by NotifyJoCo alert. Customers outside of this area are not affected. See an interactive map of the affected area
The boil advisory was issued following a main break which caused a brief loss of pressure throughout this section of the water distribution system. There is no evidence of contamination, but the advisory has been issued out of an abundance of caution and in consideration of WaterOne’s very high water quality standards. The advisory will be lifted as soon as testing is completed, which takes approximately 18 hours. As a precaution, it is recommended that water be boiled for two minutes before consuming until the advisory is lifted. The advisory only affects water for consumption – all other uses such as cleaning, bathing, or watering plants continues to be ok.
The boil advisory is in effect for 24 hours, until 4pm on Thursday, July 18th. The Kansas Department of Health & Environment will certify testing and will officially rescind the boil advisory, which will also be communicated to customers by WaterOne.
