Service Charges
The Service Charge has been
included as part of the water bill since 1978. The amount is
based on meter size, and does not include any water consumption.
The service charge policy is designed to recover fixed costs
which do not vary with the volume of water used by a customer.
The Service Charge pays for:
-
Meter reading
and billing.
Includes meter readers' salaries,
transportation and equipment, forms, office
processing staff, reports, postage and
supplies.
|
-
Maintenance and
replacement of the meter and other
components of the customer service
installation.
Includes the meter, meter setter and pit,
and basically the service line from the main
to the customer's property line.
|
-
Fire protection.
Includes maintenance of WaterOne's thousands
of fire hydrants, as well as larger-sized
pumps, reservoirs and water mains to ensure
that capacity for fire protection is
available in addition to the capacity needed
for regular water use demands.

The method WaterOne uses to
allocate cost of service, and to calculate the Service Charge
and
Consumption Charge is commonly used throughout the water
industry.
