WaterOne Partners with Local Park Districts

WaterOne’s Conservation Services department is a proud partner with Overland Park in creating a Xeriscape (water efficient) landscape for the new Arboretum. District staff met on-site with arboretum staff members to identify the different water use zones and to discuss other water saving features that might be included at the site. The on-site visit culminated with the district staff providing a preliminary Xeriscape design for the administrative/education building. The two agencies also reviewed various plant materials and educational signage that might be used to complement the landscape.

WaterOne entered into a similar cooperative venture with the Johnson County Park District in 1995. Two Xeriscape demonstration gardens were established to allow customers better access to information on maintaining quality landscapes with less water. These gardens, one located at Antioch Park and the other surrounding the Shawnee Mission Park’s Administrative Building, have given customer’s the opportunity to see how different water efficient plants can be used in a landscape. Dozens of workshops and seminars have been offered for customers interested in utilizing Xeriscape principles in their own landscape. The Overland Park Arboretum will be an exciting new venue to continue these popular seminars.

WaterOne is committed to assisting customers in becoming water smart consumers. High quality landscapes can be maintained with less water. For more information on Xeriscape gardens, email the Conservation Services Department.
