Preventing Frozen Water Pipes

WaterOne of Johnson has seen an increase in the number of calls from customers with no water.  As of noon today, 55 calls have been received.  However, in view of the frigid temperatures predicted this weekend, we ask that the following information be disseminated during broadcasts to help customers prevent frozen water pipes:

  • Customers should keep a very small stream of water running on all faucets that are adjacent to an exterior wall.

  • Open cabinet doors to allow heat to keep the internal water pipes warm.

  • Insulate pipes and faucets in unheated areas and seal off any drafts.

  • Disconnect all outdoor water hoses.

If a customer has no water at one faucet, they should check all faucets in the house.  Water flowing from any faucet indicates frozen internal plumbing and customers should contact a plumber for thawing the frozen pipes.
