Cross Connection Control Kansas State Regulations require water purveyors to have an approved program to identify and eliminate unprotected cross connections to the potable water system. A "cross connection" is any actual or potential connection or structural arrangement between a public or a consumer’s potable water system and any other source or system through which it is possible to introduce into any part of the potable system any used water, industrial fluid, gas, or substance other than the intended potable water with which the system is supplied. WaterOne adopted Rule XII on May 8, 1990 to comply with state regulations and to ensure our customers have safe drinking water. Proper backflow prevention is required on all commercial services and fixtures where the water may come in contact with contaminants. When a construction permit is obtained which involves plumbing work, WaterOne’s Distribution Water Quality & New Service Department must be notified. The Department will review plans and/or perform job site inspections to determine what backflow protection may be required. Information should be submitted a minimum of 20 working days prior to needing approval. Projects that have extensive internal plumbing and/or water using fixtures should allow additional review time. New service permits will not be released until The Distribution Water Quality & New Service Department has received the signed Project Letter document from the Owner.
