- When
filling a top fill tank with permanently mounted piping, the outlet
pipe must be properly air gapped.
|
- When
a top fill tank without permanently mounted piping is filled through a
hose, the hose outlet must be equipped
with a permanent air gap fitting.
|
- Bottom
fill tanks must be equipped with a reduced pressure assembly backflow
preventer (RPA) with inlet and outlet
shut-off valves. A qualified tester must test this RPA valve each
month. Test results must be sent to the
Distribution Water Quality & New Services Department, no

APPROVED AIR GAP SEPARATION
|
An
approved air gap is a physical separation between the free flowing
discharge end of a potable water supply
pipeline, and the overflow rim of an open or non-pressure receiving
vessel. These separations must be vertically
orientated a distance of at least twice the diameter
of the fill pipe, but never less that one inch.
|
- If
splashing is a problem, attach tubular screens or cut the supply line
outlet at an angle. If the supply line is
cut at an angle, measure the air gap distance from the bottom of the
angle.
